Rebels of this timeless town

If you dwell on Edinburgh’s sky
just mirthfully rub your hands
until a spark is shaken off,
blasting the surface.

If you don’t like firing two
or three shots at baby souls,
just spell it out on the ground
with gigantic, bloody letters.

And if you bow to pick up your pride
from your streets of frozen beggars,
just erect a revolution
against the lie of your life.

Rocks to build civilizations,
rocks to bring them down.
This is why you will be called
the Athenians of the North.
