Perfume

The rage of the city
Passing by the taxi window
Like unread pages
Turned piteously aside
By the spurned lover
Right in the dead heat of the summer
Light in the seat of the cab.
Erudite and adroit,
Thinking wistfully of those girls
Set in the doom of the
Genial back room where they met,
A fare not to forget
In the furious storm of the Festival night,
Occasionally magnanimous
In the loss of time entwined,
More often resplendent
In the victory of infidelities
And so wasted on
The perfume he tasted.
Hot night and late:
Alchemists in the Cowgate.
