Happy Birthday Hole
What a year it’s been, hole.
You and I have shared it, seen it
through from one end to the next.
While lesser roadworks came and went,
you held firm, ducked your head
and sucked yourself under the road.
Edinburgh roadworks earned themselves
a reputation, but you wouldn’t be content.
You raised your game and took them all on,
showing those upstarts what it meant
to intervene, to obtrude, to inconvenience
an entire town and shame a city council.
Still no tram, no tramlines,
no work in your vicinity.
Here’s looking at you, hole:
here’s to one more year.
